Discover our history
Located in Mayes County, Adair is situated ten miles north of Pryor on U.S. Highway 69 at the intersection of State Highway 28. Adair's first settlers arrived soon after the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railway was built in 1872. The town was established March 15, 1883, and was incorporated in 1897. It was named in honor of two prominent Cherokee brothers, William Penn Adair and Dr. Walter Thompson Adair. The town's colorful history includes an 1892 train robbery by the Dalton gang.
Our Legacy
Adair's history is woven into the very fabric of this town. Originally a bustling railway stop, community spirit continues today through the support of the school activities, and community festivities like Christmas In The Country.
Community and Culture
What truly sets Adair apart is its warm and welcoming community. Our residents are proud of their small-town values and are always ready to extend a helping hand or a friendly smile. We celebrate our heritage with events like the Adair Fall Festival and the Adair Roundup Rodeo, where everyone comes together to create cherished memories.
